MUSICA – Uno studio condotto in una università veterinaria in Inghilterra mostra che il gatto quando non sta bene, si rilassa molto di più e meglio ascoltando la musica specifica per la meditazione yoga! Una studentessa, Sian Barr, autrice dello studio, ha condotto le ricerche su gatti che hanno subito pratiche chirurgiche e ha trovato che facendo ascoltare ai felini tale musica questi si rilassavano molto più in fretta e la respirazione era più lenta. “Lo stress in piccole dosi può essere positivo come nel caso del gatto che è sotto stress per mangiare e in questo modo si comporta meglio,” dice Miss Barr – “ma altre volte può avere un effetto negativo, come nella pratica veterinaria. Il gatto chiuso in una gabbia non può fare ciò che vuole e il suo livello di stress aumenta diventando irrequieto e arrabbiato. Questo è negativo sia per lui stesso che per coloro che lo devono curare e manipolare. Nel mio studio, comparando i livelli di stress di due gruppi di gatti, uno sottoposto all’ascolto della musica e l’altro no, ho trovato che la melodia per lo Yoga ha un drammatico effetto sulla respirazione e lo stress diminuisce più in fretta che nei gatti non sottoposti.” Ne dà notizia il Telegraph.

The British newspaper The Telegraph reports on a new study showing that listening to relaxing music can reduce stress in cats when they are unwell or undergoing medical treatment.
A recent graduate in veterinary nursing, Sian Barr, is responsible for the interesting result. She found that felines who were exposed to yoga meditation music while under care in a clinic were calmer and breathed more slowly.
“Stress in small doses can be a good thing”, she explains, but beyond a certain point it becomes a problem, “because a cat is in a cage and isn’t able to do what it would like to do, so stress levels will increase and it will become wound up and angry”, something that, “is bad for not only its behavior, becoming difficult for staff to handle, but also for its immune system and ability to heal”.
Ms. Barr studied cats admitted for care by assessing their ear and eye activity, their respiratory level and how they were communicating. She then split them into two groups, only one of which heard the yoga music. By scoring both groups, she found that: “The music had a dramatic effect on respiration rates, with those exposed (to it) decreasing to a relaxed rate much quicker than those not exposed”.
