ATTUALITA’ – Con il caldo un bel gelato piace a tutti, anche ai cani!
K99, il primo camioncino gelati per cani al mondo, ha fatto il suo debutto al Boomerang Pets Party in Regents Park a Londra lo scorso sabato ed è stato un successone. I gusti del sorbetto sono due: prosciutto e pollo e “crocantino canino”; entrambi guarniti con biscotti per cani e serviti su degli invitanti coni.
Ceric Nale, lo chef autore delle ricette ha detto: “Quando è stato il momento di creare le ricette per il K99, il sorbetto per cani, volevo essere sicuro di avere i gusti più eccitanti e la consistenza giusta”.
Dalle foto sembra che i cani londinesi abbiano assai gradito! Ne dà notizia il Daily Mail.

As a rule, dogs aren’t supposed to eat ice cream, but – based on entirely new, dog-healthy recipes – the world’s first canine ice cream van has made its debut appearance in London’s Regents Park at an event called the Boomerang Pets Party, a fundraiser for a squad of search and rescue dogs.
So far the service, called “K99”, offers doggie cones in two flavors: a ham and chicken sorbet topped with a biscuit and served in a cone; and “canine cookie crunch”, a combination of mixed dog biscuits and ice cream.
The head chef behind the innovative cones is Ceric Nale, who explains: ‘When it came to designing the recipes for the K99s, we wanted to make sure we had the most exciting flavour and texture combinations”.

A luxurious new feline hotel in England may make it possible for your pet to have an even better vacation than you.
Four-legged guests who check in at the Longcroft Luxury Cat Hotel in Welwyn Garden City, not far outside London, can feast from the hotel’s organic “à la cat” menu – featuring delights including poached salmon, tiger prawns and steamed white fish; all served on silver platters and bone china dishes – and then sleep in six individually decorated chalets.
Guest cats are treated to jazz and classical music from a state-of-the-art sound system. Bird houses are fixed outside their private bedroom windows to keep them entertained and porcelain water fountains flow with fresh water to keep kitty from getting thirsty.
An optional Grooming Package is available as well and includes eye and ear treatments, a nail job, massage and shine.
The cost for all this feline pampering is surprisingly reasonable. A normal grade suite costs just €18 a night, while the larger ones go for €22 – roughly $24 and $29 respectively. Special menus and beauty treatments are optional.

SALUTE – «Il caldo eccessivo può essere fatale per gli amici a quattro zampe. Con la stagione estiva e le alte temperature ambientali la salute degli animali va quindi tutelata ancora di più». Lo ha sottolineato il sottosegretario alla Salute, Francesca Martini, che ha definito le regole principali da osservare in questo periodo per preservare la salute degli animali domestici.

1 – Attenzione ai colpi di calore: non lasciare il cane in macchina o legato sotto il sole, evitate le passeggiate nelle ore più calde della giornata.
2 – Se si sospetta il colpo di calore, bagnare tutto il corpo con l’acqua, soprattutto collo, ascelle e cuscinetti plantari.
3 – Non lasciare residui di cibo nella ciotola, perchè con le alte temperature i batteri si sviluppano velocemente e il rischio infezioni è alto.
4 – Dopo una passeggiata all’aria aperta, meglio ispezionare accuratamente il suo pelo, le orecchie e gli spazi interdigitali, per scongiurare la presenza dei cosidetti “forasacchi’” o “ariste”, semi di graminacea, che possono mettere in pericolo la sua salute.
5 – Attenzione a tutto quello che Fido o Fuffi ingeriscono, soprattutto fuori dalle mura domestiche.
6 – La temperatura alle stelle favorisce lo sviluppo di piccoli nemici degli animali, i parassiti come le pulci o le zecche, che possono veicolare patologie rischiose per la sua salute: la prevenzione, attraverso i trattamenti antiparassitari periodici è la strategia migliore.
7 – Non esagerare con l’aria condizionata o con gli sbalzi di temperatura.
8 – I viaggi con gli amici a quattro zampe meritano qualche attenzione: evitare le ore più calde, le manovre brusche, o l’aria condizionata troppo alta e fare soste regolari per consentirgli di bere.
9 – Se soffre l’auto, meglio rivolgersi al veterinario per somministrare i farmaci più efficaci ed evitare rischi prima di un viaggio.
10 – Prima delle vacanze, meglio fare una visita di controllo dal veterinario.

Including your pets in your summer activities is healthy fun for everyone. But when heat and humidity climb, it’s important to understand how pets are affected and take the necessary precautions to keep them cool and comfortable.

1 – Always provide plenty of cool, clean water for your animal.
2 – Birds handle heat better than dogs and cats, but make sure cages are kept out of the sun and that fresh water is available.
3 – It may be time for a diet. Summer can be a difficult time of year for overweight dogs and cats who may overheat faster because of the extra layers of fat. 
4 – Leave your pets at home as much as possible. While you may think that they’ll be lonely, they’ll be much more comfortable in your cool home than riding in a hot car.
5 – If you must take your pets along for the ride, NEVER leave them alone in a parked car. Even with the windows open, it can quickly become a furnace.
6 – Don’t force your animal to exercise in hot, humid weather. Go out in the cool of the early morning or evening instead.
7 – Watch out for insects. The warm weather and longer days keep us and our pets outdoors, increasing our contact with insect pests, possible disease vectors.
8 – Be careful of dogs around swimming pools, especially if they’re older and can’t get out of the water as easily as they used to.
9 -Bring your pet inside during the heat of the day and let them rest in a cool part of the house. If you take a dog to the beach, make sure you can provide shade.
10 – In any animal, be alert for the signs of heat stress: panting, glazed eyes, a rapid pulse, unsteadiness, a staggering gait, vomiting, or a deep red tongue. If you think your pet is suffering from heat exhaustion, contact your veterinarian right away — it could save the animal’s life.
